Clinical Skills Workshop
About the Event
As part of the Sports Physiotherapy course in the second semester of the final year, students participated in a hands-on Clinical Skills Workshop on July 1, 2025. This session was facilitated by Professor John Quartey, a highly respected sports physiotherapist with decades of experience in Ghana’s sporting arena.
Professor Quartey is well known for his long-standing role as the sports physiotherapist for the Ghana Black Stars, Ghana’s senior national football team, and has also worked with various clubs and national teams under both FIFA and CAF-sanctioned events. His real-world experience brought the session to life, connecting classroom theory to practical application in a meaningful and memorable way.
Event Summary
During the workshop, students had the opportunity to apply core skills taught throughout the semester, including bandaging, taping, strapping, and wrapping techniques, all essential in the prevention and management of sports injuries.
Under Professor Quartey’s close guidance, students took turns practicing these techniques on one another, gaining valuable hands-on experience. The session was highly interactive, with students actively asking questions and receiving practical, in-depth answers and demonstrations from the professor, who shared real-life scenarios from his work with elite athletes.
One of the highlights of the day was the introduction to the contents of the FIFA and CAF-standard medical bags, used on the field for emergency injury management. Students were given the chance to explore the tools and supplies used by professionals during live matches, a rare and insightful experience that deepened their understanding of in-game medical preparedness.
The session was not only educational but also inspiring, as students engaged directly with a veteran in the field, strengthening their clinical confidence and practical readiness as future physiotherapists.
