Physiofest 2025: Media Visitations and Outreach
As part of the week-long PhysioFest celebrations, Tuesday, 12th August, was dedicated to media and community engagement, with activities carefully designed to highlight the role of physiotherapy in sports and beyond.
Media Visitations
The day began with a media tour to key outlets. The President of UGAPS, Mr. Kelvin Owusu Amfo, together with the Financial Secretary, Miss Precious Adedeji, and their colleague, Mr. Elikem Macmens, visited Kwadwo Sheldon Studios. With one of our own, Mr. Kelvin Sevor, as the host, the team discussed this year’s theme:
“Support the Game: Redefining the Scope of Physiotherapy in Sports.”
The conversation centered on lessons gathered from the official launch of PhysioFest and the importance of strengthening physiotherapy’s presence in sports medicine. They emphasized how physiotherapists contribute not only to injury rehabilitation but also to injury prevention, athlete performance optimization, and long-term wellness.
Later in the day, another delegation made their way to Radio Universe. This team included the General Secretary, Miss Klenam Esi Sepah, the Deputy Financial Secretary, Miss Queenstar Andoh, and their colleague, Mr. Emmanuel Asante. During their session, they addressed a common misconception that physiotherapists are simply masseurs. They clarified the true scope of physiotherapy, highlighting its evidence-based practice, clinical expertise, and vital role in sports science and athlete care. This engagement gave the public a better appreciation of the profession and its significant impact in Ghana’s growing sports industry.
Football Club Visitation
The day concluded with a visit to a local football club, where physiotherapy students and interacted directly with the players. The team demonstrated correct exercise techniques, warm-up routines, and stretching exercises essential for both performance and injury prevention. In addition, the players were given valuable health tips to help preserve their bodies and sustain their wellbeing even after retirement from active sports.
