About the Event
The seminar on “Physiotherapy in Different Settings” was organized by the University of Ghana Association of Physiotherapy Students (UGAPS) to expose students to the wide range of environments in which physiotherapists can operate. Held on May 16, 2025, the event brought together students and professionals for a session of learning, engagement, and inspiration. The program was hosted by Miss Owusu Shirley Lois and aimed to deepen participants’ understanding of physiotherapy beyond the conventional hospital setting.
Event Summary
The seminar commenced with an opening prayer by Mr. Asare Jayden, followed by a warm welcome and brief introduction from the host. Mr. Kelvin Owusu Amfo, President of UGAPS, delivered the keynote address, emphasizing the evolving scope of physiotherapy and the importance of embracing diverse practice areas.
An interactive expectations-sharing session followed, where students expressed their desire to explore physiotherapy in non-traditional environments such as schools, sports settings, rural communities, and home-based care.
Miss Shirley Lois introduced the guest speaker, Dr. Philans Cosmos Ankrah, whose impressive background built excitement for the keynote presentation. Dr. Ankrah delivered an in-depth and engaging lecture lasting over an hour, discussing how physiotherapy is practiced across various.
settings, supported by real-life examples, challenges, and innovative strategies. His insights left students informed, inspired, and eager to explore new frontiers within the profession.
A vibrant Q&A session followed, with students posing insightful questions that were met with thoughtful and practical responses from the speaker.
As a token of appreciation, a citation was presented to the guest speaker by the UGAPS executives. The event concluded with closing remarks from the Organizing Secretary, Miss Odumang Lilian Ayorkor, and a closing prayer led by the Financial Secretary, Miss Precious Adedeji.
The seminar was a resounding success, enhancing student awareness of the dynamic opportunities within physiotherapy and reinforcing the association’s commitment to professional development.
