UGAPS GENERAL ASSEMBLY 2025/2026 ACADEMIC YEAR
The University of Ghana Association of Physiotherapy Students (UGAPS) successfully held its General Assembly on Saturday, 21st February 2026, at the SBAHS Exam Hall. The meeting brought together students, executive members, alumni, and invited guests for a productive session focused on reflection, engagement, and strategic planning for the Association’s activities during the academic year.
Opening Ceremony
The programme commenced with an opening prayer led by Asare Gyampo Jayden John, creating a solemn and purposeful atmosphere for the day’s proceedings.
Following the prayer, Abigail Boatemaa Nartey welcomed members and explained the purpose of the General Assembly. She highlighted the Association’s mission and the objectives of the meeting before introducing the newly elected Executive Council to the general membership.
Presidential Address
UGAPS President, Queenstar Andoh, delivered the presidential address, warmly welcoming members to the new academic term. She expressed appreciation for the continuous support shown to the Association and shared her vision of promoting unity, academic excellence, professional growth, and active participation among physiotherapy students throughout the year.
Alumni Engagement Session
One of the major highlights of the General Assembly was the Alumni Engagement Session, moderated by Stacy Eyra Amedeka. The discussion featured two accomplished professionals in the field of physiotherapy:
- Captain Prosper Selasi Akoeda, Senior Physiotherapist at the 37 Military Hospital
- PT Gabriella Buxton-Acquaye, Founder of Physytek
Drawing from their professional experiences, the panelists provided practical guidance on making a successful transition from university education to clinical practice. They discussed career development opportunities within and beyond conventional healthcare settings, while also emphasizing entrepreneurship in physiotherapy through the example of Physytek. The interactive session generated enthusiastic participation, with students asking insightful questions and benefiting from the valuable experiences shared by the guest speakers.
Swearing-In of Committee Members
The General Assembly also witnessed the official swearing-in of newly appointed committee members. The oath of office was administered by the Head of Judiciary, formally inaugurating the committee members into their respective responsibilities within the Association.
Reports and Presentations
The programme continued with presentations from various officers of the Association, providing members with updates on key operational areas.
The Head of the Organizing Committee presented the Organizing Calendar, outlining the major programmes and events scheduled for the academic year.
The Financial Secretary presented a report on the Association’s financial position, giving members an overview of its current financial status.
The Public Relations Officer also addressed the Assembly, presenting communication initiatives and strategies aimed at improving the visibility, public image, and outreach of UGAPS.
Engagement with Level 100 Students
A special orientation session was organized for Level 100 students, during which members of the Executive Council welcomed the freshmen into the Association and introduced them to the academic and social life of the physiotherapy programme.
At the same time, the selection of Course Representatives for the Level 100 class was conducted outside the main auditorium under the supervision of the Executive Council, allowing the newly admitted students to elect their academic representatives.
Recreational Session
While the orientation and representative selection were taking place, continuing students participated in a recreational session featuring music and interactive games. Activities such as the popular “Continue the Lyrics” challenge created a lively atmosphere and encouraged social interaction among members.
Closing Ceremony
The General Assembly concluded with a Vote of Thanks delivered by the General Secretary, who expressed sincere appreciation to the Executive Council, alumni speakers, invited guests, and all members whose contributions ensured the success of the programme.
The closing prayer was led by Sheriff Kamara, bringing the official proceedings to a peaceful conclusion.
Following the formal programme, members enjoyed refreshments and musical entertainment, providing an opportunity for networking, interaction, and fellowship in a relaxed environment.
